The future of well-being

Remote working? It’s time to Invest in well-being.

The Covid-19 crisis is accelerating one of the greatest workplace transformations of our lifetime. But in order to make the successful transition to a new way of working, we need to put more emphasis not only on technology, but on the well-being of our teams.

Across the globe, companies are dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic by asking their employees to work from home. Remote working is the new normal. In fact, it has been calculated that, since the beginning of the crisis, companies have encouraged up to 88% of their employees to work from home.

But, what can we do to help us to prepare for one of the largest work from home experiments ever?

Today more than ever, the future of work is the future of well-being.

Monitoring and improving the well-being of our teams has never been more important. The stresses of managing our work-life balance, the growth of the digital economy and our ‘always on’ way of working can have an impact.  Now, dealing with the outbreak of Covid-19 has made this even more urgent.

Remote work is here to stay. The current crisis is obliging companies, employees and their managers to find ways to work from home. When the crisis subsides, things will never be the same again, as managers will increasingly explore how to make remote working part of their culture. Do we need to take that flight if we can communicate on a new project using Zoom? Can we do more to protect the health of our teams, both physically and psychologically?  And how can we leverage the benefits of tapping into a more geographically and ethnically diverse talent pool?

This focus on well-being is now more important than ever as teams experience the anxiety of dealing with the current situation. All change comes with challenges: especially when that change seems driven by forces beyond our control.

Start leading the change now.

Business leaders can’t afford to wait for the current crisis to be over. They need to challenge perceptions and start leading this disruption of work now. This is the opportunity for us to show how we lead in a crisis as we navigate the unprecedented journey in the coming weeks and months.

The new way of working is re-defining the relationship between all of the stakeholders: employers, trainers, HR, consultants and teams:

  • Despite being physically separated, we need to be closer than ever
  • Diversity will become increasingly important as traditional barriers are broken down.
  • Connectivity will require a more empathetic approach to collaboration.
  • We will need to make decisions about how to improve the lives of our teams based on data, not intuition.
  • This new normal will drive new ways to learn, share and express our viewpoints online.

Leading the change means turning the crisis into a chance to reshape the way we monitor, measure and improve the well-being of our teams.
